Walking games for iPhone: compare collecting, territory and stories
Pikmin Bloom suits a step-based companion collection; Run An Empire suits map strategy; Zombies, Run! suits an audio adventure. Choose Treadline if you want real landmark badges from recorded walking loops. All four let you start without buying a subscription, but their rewards and free-access limits differ.
This guide is published by Treadline, one of the apps discussed. No app paid for placement. Sources and copy reviewed ; features, access and purchase options can change.
How to choose
Choose by the reward you want, whether your usual walk fits the mechanic, and what free access includes. Step-based collecting, a recorded territory outing and an audio mission are different commitments. This is a comparison of official product information and released Treadline features, not a hands-on battery or accuracy test.

For companions and everyday steps: Pikmin Bloom
Pikmin Bloom grows seedlings into companions as you walk. You can collect Decor Pikmin and use petals to plant flowers along a walk. It is a useful starting point when a companion collection appeals more than planning a route around one destination.
The app is free-to-play, with a shop for coins and items. Check the current offer before purchasing; free-to-play does not mean every item or optional purchase is included.
For a strategy game on the map: Run An Empire
Run An Empire connects a recorded outing with an empire-building game. Its FAQ says you capture a hex by entering or encircling it while tracking, then use the game’s building and resource systems.
Choose it when developing an empire is the attraction. The official FAQ lists walking, running and wheelchair rides, so its name does not mean every outing must be a run.
For a real landmark collection: Treadline
Treadline suits a walk with a place to aim for. Record a qualifying loop that captures territory enclosing a landmark’s marked location to earn its badge. Walking past the entrance or visiting the attraction alone does not earn it. An earned badge remains in your collection after competitive territory changes hands.
Recording, territory and landmark badges are free; Pro is optional. Treadline records on iPhone and Android. Use the free web loop finder to inspect an existing suggestion, then check its route and current access before setting out.
For a story during the walk: Zombies, Run!
Zombies, Run! provides audio stories while you walk, jog or run, with supplies collected for a base. It may suit you when the next part of a story matters more than a character collection or a particular landmark.
Its official FAQ describes a free download and weekly free episode unlocks, with a subscription for the full experience. Check that you enjoy the audio format before choosing it for your regular walks.
Try one ordinary outing first
Pick the mechanic that fits a walk you already want to take. An out-and-back stroll can suit a step or story goal; a Treadline landmark goal needs a qualifying enclosing capture. Begin with a familiar, accessible route and judge whether the reward makes you want to go out again.
For a landmark outing, compare a published loop’s approximate distance with your own available moving time. Add time for travel, stops and crossings. A GPX suggestion is a planning aid, not turn-by-turn navigation or proof of current access.
