Plan your first territory walk: one loop, one clear goal
Choose a familiar public loop, check the point you want to enclose, and record the outing on your phone. A useful first territory goal is one understandable shape you can finish within your available time.
This guide is published by Treadline, one of the apps discussed. No app paid for placement. Sources and copy reviewed ; features, access and purchase options can change.
How to choose
Use this worked planning example when you already understand the badge rule and want to turn it into one practical outing.
Draw the goal before choosing the distance
Imagine a park with a public path around its outside. Your goal is the area within that path, rather than the greatest distance you can record. Check that the loop actually surrounds the point you care about.
This is an illustrative example, not a mapped route or a promise that any particular park qualifies. In Treadline, inspect the marked landmark location: the name on a nearby entrance is not a substitute for that point.
Give the loop a real time budget
Suppose your familiar loop is approximately 1.2 km and your own recent comfortable pace is 12 min/km. The moving-time estimate is 14.4 minutes. With five minutes for crossings and pauses, allow about twenty minutes once you are at the start.
Travel to the start and back is additional. If your time window includes that travel, subtract it first and choose a shorter loop when needed.
Record the route you actually take
Start a recording in the app and follow permitted paths. If the intended path is closed, change the outing rather than forcing the drawn shape. A route plan describes an intention; the result depends on the actual recorded activity.
Afterwards, inspect the activity and the territory result together. A distance total alone cannot show whether your route enclosed the marked point.
Choose the next outing from the result
Keep a short note of what was practical: where you started, how long the outing took, and whether crossings made the time estimate unrealistic. That gives the next plan a better basis than repeating the same example pace.
Landmark collecting has an additional condition: a qualifying capture must enclose the landmark’s marked location. The general territory goal and the badge outcome are related, but checking one does not establish the other.
